Cooper Physician Appointed as Chief Of Radiation Oncology

Cooper University Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Tamara A. LaCouture, M.D., as the Chief of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Cooper University Hospital and Vice Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Dr. LaCouture is board certified in radiation oncology and has extensive experience utilizing advanced radiation delivery systems and technologies such as high dose rate brachytherapy (including Mammosite), IMRT,  respiratory gating and stereotactic radiotherapy, as well as conventional 3 Dimensional conformal therapy.

Dr. LaCouture serves as Medical Director of the Cooper CyberKnife Center and has extensive experience in the use of this advanced technology.  Dr. LaCouture has a special interest in the care of patients with breast cancer, gynecologic malignancies and lung cancer. She is an active participant in the department’s clinical trials program and is principal investigator for an important gynecological oncology trial.

Dr. LaCouture joined Cooper in 2007.  Prior to her arrival at Cooper she was part of a private South Jersey radiation oncology group practice and also served as a consultant in the Department of Radiology at various local hospitals. Dr. LaCouture also spent over six years on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and following her residency was on the medical staff at Hahnemann – Medical College of Pennsylvania.

She has served on numerous hospital and community committees dedicated to the care of the region’s patients. Notably, serving as the Medical Director and Cancer Program Liaison for the University of Pennsylvania and its Burlington/Camden County, New Jersey affiliates from 2003-2005.

Dr. LaCouture is a 1994 graduate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden. While there, she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society and received a number of awards for excellence. She completed her training in Radiation Oncology in Cooper’s residency program.
