Your Guide to Joint Replacement

Preparing for Your Surgery

  • Father and childA Cooper Same Day Surgery nurse will call you the afternoon or evening before your surgery. (If your surgery is scheduled for a Monday, you will be called on the previous Friday.) The nurse will tell you what time to arrive at the hospital for your joint replacement. 
  • Do not eat or drink after 12 Midnight.   
  • Reduce or stop smoking.   
  • The nurse who calls you will advise you about taking any medications on the morning of your procedure. 
  • Do not chew gum or eat mints the morning of your surgery. 
  • Take medications as instructed, with a sip of water. 
  • Bring your robe, slippers, toiletries, and a list of the medications you are currently taking.

The Cooper Surgery Center is located on the 5th floor of the Kelemen Pavilion (main hospital). Parking is available next to the hospital. From the parking garage, take the elevators down to the first floor, turn right and proceed to the main lobby of the hospital and to the hospital elevators. Take the elevators to the 5th floor and exit to your right.

Please bring your parking ticket with you. We will validate it so that you receive a reduced fee for the first day.
