With Cooper University Hospital’s Radiation Oncology team, you’re never far away from the most advanced radiation therapy treatments and approaches available. Let us show you how much we care.

What is Radiation Therapy?

Radiation therapy - the use of high level radiation to destroy cancer cells — is one of the most common treatments for cancer. The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Cooper Cancer Institute offers comprehensive evaluation, treatment and follow-up care for patients who need radiation therapy for cancer. We are a multidisciplinary cancer center that is part of the state’s first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Cooper offers the most advanced radiation therapy treatments and approaches available, maximizing the potential for cure while minimizing the side effects associated with radiation therapy. We were the first center in South Jersey to use novel approaches, such as high dose rate brachytherapy for prostate cancer, and the first in the nation to use magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging guided brachytherapy for prostate cancer in a National Institutes of Health-sponsored study.

American College of RadiologyOur radiation oncologists, all of whom are board certified, are experts in treating all types of cancer. They are actively involved in developing and conducting clinical trials to test new ways to use radiation therapy to fight cancer, including studies sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. Clinical trials provide you with access to the latest advances in and research on radiation therapy before they are widely available.

In addition, Cooper University Hospital's Department of Radiation Oncology maintains accreditation by the American College of Radiology and conforms to their rigid standards. We are one of the only practices in South Jersey to have achieved such recognition.

CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery

CyberKnifeCooper CyberKnife Center, part of Cooper Cancer Institute (CCI), is proud to offer a ground-breaking cancer treatment tool - the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System.

The CyberKnife is the world’s first and only radiosurgery system designed to pinpoint and destroy tumors in the body. In many cases, the treatment offers new hope to patients who were considered untreatable or inoperable, who may be looking for an alternative to surgery, or who have been previously exposed to the maximum allowable dose of radiation but still require further treatment.
