External Radiation Therapy
The most common form of radiation therapy, external radiation therapy delivers a beam of high-energy x-rays directly to your tumor to destroy cancer cells or slow their growth. The radiation is generated by an external machine.
Cooper uses state-of-the-art linear accelerators to deliver external radiation therapy, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), the most advanced form of external radiation available. Cooper also offers XKnife™ stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumors.
External radiation therapy may be used alone or in combination with and / or surgery to cure, control, or relieve symptoms of many different types of cancer. Daily external radiation therapy treatments (Monday to Friday) generally last from two to eight weeks. External radiation therapy is available on an outpatient basis.
