Cutting Edge Radiation Technology
LightSpeed CT Scanner for Radiation Therapy Planning
Designed specifically to meet the special needs of oncology patients, the LightSpeed RT provides advanced imaging techniques to facilitate enhanced radiation treatment planning. The LightSpeed RT features a larger gantry opening allowing for flexible patient positioning options, and wide field-of-view, allowing doctors to visualize more anatomy. In addition, the LightSpeed RT demonstrates multi-slice capability in high resolution, facilitating the imaging of small structures, including small tumors, and makes 4D motion assessment of tumors possible. Multi-slice offers precise imaging detail that improves 3D and 4D models, Digitally Reconstructed Radiographs (DRRs) and Intensity Modulated Radiation Treatment (IMRT) accuracy.
Typical LightSpeed RT Procedures
- Imaging for Radiation Therapy Planning
- Imaging for aiding in Oncology / Cancer Care
- 4D Respiratory Gating – for aiding in tumor motion assessment
Patient Benefits
- Positioning freedom with larger gantry opening
- Optimum images for precise planning
- Helps ensure patient is in optimal position for imaging for treatment planning
- Enhances patient comfort and provides for a less claustrophobic experience
- Accommodates larger patients
Breathing lights coach patients through breath holds during scans
Less time needed for breath-holds, resulting in less stress to the patient
Fewer rescans with greater image flexibility
The LightSpeed RT was the first multi-slice, wide-bore CT available to the healthcare industry. Multi-slice offers precise imaging detail and accuracy. The 65 cm variable display field of view, delivers more visual coverage for complete-body scanning. In addition, the 80 cm patient opening provides complete flexibility for patient positioning freedom, particularly for breast and prostate cancer patients. The wider patient opening enables easier replication of patient immobilization for treatment planning with some of the larger accessories, while also providing the ability to scan larger patients.
The LightSpeed RT includes GE’s proprietary HiLight Matrix II Detector technology, which reduces X-ray technique, lowers patient dose, and provides better image quality and higher patient throughput. This detector captures more anatomical information per second than single-slice scanners – thanks to fundamental breakthroughs in ceramics science and electronics engineering.
The LightSpeed RT can be compliment with GE’s XtreamTM technology to provide superior workflow, enhanced productivity, and greater throughput. With thousands of LightSpeed CT systems installed worldwide, more doctors choose GE LightSpeed than any other multi-slice CT scanner.
Facts About CT Scanning
The use of CT scanners to assist oncologists in radiation treatment planning is increasing. An estimated 100 million CT scans are performed annually around the world, including nearly 50 million in the United States. There are also new and expanding needs for wide bore CT usage with larger patients, non-radiology patients and trauma patients.
