Millennium MLC Multileaf Collimator

MLCMultileaf Collimators improve dose distribution by automatically forming hundreds of fields in rapid succession. Based on the Windows® NT operating system, Millennium MLC software is easy to learn and use. Pull-down menus allow you to quickly enter and edit patient information, initiate treatment and display detailed information regarding system status.

Fast, Easy Leaf Positioning
The ShaperTM leaf planning and editing workstation makes it easy to create leaf positions. The operator simply traces the tumor outline from the simulator film using a digitizer to create the desired MLC pattern. Shaper then displays the collimator and leaf combinations, allowing you to select the optimum fit.

When using VARiS,® Shaper can be used with the treatment field definition window. With a few clicks of the mouse you can define shapes, edit existing treatment plans and position MLC leaves. Both static and dynamic treatment plans are automatically stored in the patient’s electronic chart.

Streamlined Treatment
Once the treatment fields are fully defined, you can use VARiS to select the patient’s treatment chart and the day’s scheduled treatment fields. The MLC shapes automatically appear in the correct treatment order, and the MLC leaves will automatically move into place as you prepare to treat the first field. After the first treatment is complete, VARiS automatically downloads the succeeding fields in the proper sequence.

Varian Millennium MLCs enable you to perform conventional and conformal treatments with a single Clinac accelerator, while reducing head diameter by 10 cm over previous designs. With IMRT, MLCs conform the dose to the tumor volume, while sparing surrounding normal tissue and critical organs. You can also use MLCs with Varian’s Enhanced Dynamic Wedge for unprecedented flexibility in automating treatment.

A New Standard of Precision
With the Millennium MLC-120, Varian brings a new level of resolution to full-field beam shaping. The MLC-120 features a full 40 x 40 cm2 field and is the first MLC for general clinical use that offers 0.5 cm resolution for high precision treatment of small and irregular fields, especially in head and neck treatments.
