Women's Recovery Program
Welcome to a community that cares about women and children. We believe women who enter Cooper House Women’s Recovery Program can learn to live drug and alcohol-free, give birth to a healthy baby if they are pregnant, and become effective parents. The Cooper House staff is concerned for the well being of our clients.
Our goal is to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to overcoming addictions. Clients may learn to love themselves and become responsible and worthy members of their communities.
What is Cooper House?
Cooper House is a comprehensive outpatient treatment program for women who are new to recovery and need help to stop their use of alcohol and drugs. Professionally trained addictions counselors with a wide array of resources are ready to help recovering women and their families.
How does the women's recovery program work?
A client may enter treatment at any of three levels depending on her recovery needs.
Level I: Client attends treatment 5 days a week with a focus on becoming drug free and tending to other immediate needs, such as income and housing.
Level II: Client participates in treatment 3 days a week while preparing long-term goals, including employment and maintaining a healthy home.
Level III: Client takes part in one day a week of on-site aftercare while sustaining progress, and receives crisis management as needed.
What are our goals?
Because statistics indicate that children of addicts are 50% more likely to become addicts themselves, our goal is to impact the ways substance abuse can affect multiple generations of families. Cooper House does this by:
- supporting our clients’ efforts to become healthy and free from all substance abuse
- increasing clients’ self-esteem and parenting skills
- assisting our pregnant clients deliver healthy babies and building a strong support system for themselves and
their ongoing recovery
- empowering women to become independent and effective mothers
- encouraging the use of 12-step programs in order to develop a sober support network

What if I have children?
Cooper House offers on-site daycare assistance for preschool children. Child Development Specialists provide training to children who need support reaching age appropriate skills.
Who may join the program?
Although priority is given to pregnant and parenting women, treatment is offered to any woman who is:
- at least 18 years old and a New Jersey resident
- committed to her recovery.
- willing to enter a detoxification center, if needed
How do I pay for treatment?
Medicaid and private insurance are accepted or a sliding fee scale is used. State and county funds are available, if needed. Transportation is offered to Camden County residents receiving Medicaid.
How can Cooper House help me?
Cooper House staff believes that empowered mothers can break the cycle of addiction. Through therapy, we help women know themselves and discover what prompted their addiction. Then, we hope to plant the seeds of change so women are better equipped to care for themselves and their families.
