Clinical Pastoral Education

pastoral careClinical Pastoral Education – (CPE) is recognized by the Department of Education as an Allied Health Education program. Successful completion of the CPE program may lead to board certification for those who wish to be professional chaplains.

Clinical Pastoral Education is a certificate program fully accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., Decatur, Georgia. A chaplain is considered to be a professional member of the interdisciplinary health care team providing spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff.

Considered graduate theological education, CPE credit will transfer to most major theological seminaries. A bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite for admission as well as some background in theology or enrollment in seminary. Successful completion of the program requires participation in 100 hours of didactic instruction, case studies and peer review and 300 clinical contact hours of pastoral ministry to patients, families, and staff. The program administrator and facilitator is a board certified clinical supervisor & chaplain.
