Financial Matters
Hospital Billing
Once discharged, Cooper University Hospital will submit the bill to your insurance company to make payment. According to the terms of your insurance policy, you may be responsible for portions of your bill such as co-payments, co-insurance and deductibles.
Until the bill is paid in full, regular statements will be mailed to you advising you of the status of your account. Should the insurance company deny payment on all or any portion of your hospital bill, arrangement for payment may be made with the Patient Accounting Department. Payments may be made in the form of cash, check, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
Financial Customer Service Representatives are available for any questions regarding your hospital bill, insurance coverage, or any patient responsibilities.
Our representatives are available:
- Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Representatives can be reached at (856) 342-2360
Physician Billing
Billing statements from a physician are not included in your hospital bill. Here are some examples where you would receive a separate bill for physician services:
- You were treated by an emergency room physician
- You were visited by a consulting physician requested by your physician
- You had surgery and received anesthesia from an anesthesiologist
- You had testing interpreted by a physician specialist
The fees from these services are payable directly to the physician issuing the bills, not the hospital. Financial counselors are available:
- Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- If you have questions regarding physician billing, please call (856) 356-4800.
Medicare
You have the right to all the hospital care required for the proper diagnosis and treatment of your illness or injury. According to federal law, your discharge date must be determined solely by your medical needs, not by your diagnosis or Medicare payments. You are entitled to full information about decisions affecting your Medicare coverage and the payment for hospital and post-hospital services.
Charity Care and Uninsured
If you require Public Assistance or Charity Care, advise the registration personnel or contact the Financial Counselor at (856) 342-3140 to set up an appointment.
If you are uninsured or underinsured, you may qualify for a reduction of your billed charges. Click here for more information pursuant to New Jersey Legislature, P.L. 1971, c.136 and find out how you might qualify.
