Dr. Dennis J. Hoelzer is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery and the Head of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. He did his undergraduate studies at Purdue University and obtained his medical school degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Rochester.
Dr. Hoelzer completed his general surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania and pediatric surgery fellowship at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is board certified in pediatric surgery and has an extensive background in both undergraduate and graduate medical education and has served for nine years as general surgery program director. He has published both peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on several subjects with a focus on pediatric trauma and the antibiotic management of children with perforated appendicitis.
Dr. Hoelzer is interested in seeing patients with general pediatric surgery problems and prenatal consultations of pregnant mothers whose babies have been identified to have surgically correctable congenital malformations.
