Eric L. Hume, MD graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical Center with a MD degree in 1978 and in 1983 completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and was appointed to the Jefferson Medical College faculty and Thomas Jefferson University medical staff. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1995 and directed the orthopaedic surgery division of Jefferson’s level one trauma center since its inception in 1988.
Dr. Hume has an active hip and knee replacement practice and he is actively involved in hip and knee design, clinical and biomechanical research. He has authored more than 30 chapters and original articles.
He has been noted in all five of Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doc issues since 1991 for joint replacement and he received the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey Humanism in Medicine Award in 1999. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, AOA, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Medical Association, The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, Orthopaedic Research Society, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, as well as state and city medical and orthopaedic societies serving as Philadelphia Orthopaedic Society President 1994-1995.
