Jewel Amui was born with a desire for languages. At one point in her lifetime she was fluent in French and German and thought of pursuing a career as a bilingual or multilingual secretary or an air hostess, however she excelled in the sciences and always wanted to educate women and help them. At age 12 she had the keen sense of doing reproductive health for women though she knew no females or family members involved in this field.

Jewel Amui was born in Ghana, West Africa to Mr. Joseph Amui and Ms. Veronica Y. Otoo. She is especially grateful to her mother who encouraged, supported and helped her succeed academically. She completed high school in Ghana and migrated to the U.S. at age 20 to pursue a liberal arts degree at St. Elizabeth's College. Jewel Amui received a four year full scholarship for St. Elizabeth's College. During her college career she participated in several volunteer activities, including St. Elizabeth's Day Care, support for the independent handicapped and elderly and also volunteered with Norristown Cancer Care Unit. Jewel participated two summers at the National Science Institute. She graduated with honors from St. Elizabeth's, received several awards and maintained Dean's list status 1986-1990. Upon graduation she was listed in the "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities", National Collegiate Honors Counsel and BBB Honor's Society. She received an internship at Lehigh University, both in physical and organic chemistry. Subsequently Jewel performed research in physical and organic chemistry and was a teaching assistant. Jewel has experience in the use of gel permeation, chromatography, thin layer chromatography, HPLC, vacuum fractioned distillation and extraction. She had one publication in the journal "Energy and Fuel" under the supervision of Professor John Lanser. At Lehigh University she also volunteered at St. Lukes Hospital at their courier services.

In 1990 upon graduation from St. Elizabeth's College, Jewel was accepted into the Chicago Medical School but was unable to attend due to limitations in financial resources and her immigration status. This slot was held for one additional year for her, however, she still was unable to attend medical school at this time for the same reasons. Jewel maximized her time by pursuing and completing her Masters Degree at Lehigh University in 1993.

In 1993 Jewel was accepted to UMDNJ - RWJMS - where she completed her medical school education in 1997. She then accomplished one year internship in Internal Medicine then changed to a speciality in OB-GYN and completed her residency June, 2002. Jewel is presently practicing with Cooper Institute for Reproductive and Hormonal Disorders and Cooper Center for In Vitro Fertilization.

Jewel Amui's biggest goal is to educate and provide preventative health care for women. She is fulfilled her patients achieve a pregnancy and deliver healthy, normal children.

Jewel is married to Joseph Bellon. They have two children, Rebecca, 21 years of age and Joshua, 21 months old. Jewel's interests have been education at all levels because she believed ignorance is expensive. She loves to sing, attend Broadway shows and musicals and volunteering at the bookstore.
