Dr. Melvin R. Pratter is the Associate Chief of Medicine and the Head of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey. He is a full professor of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine.

Dr. Pratter graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1969. He received his M.D. degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine in 1973. He was elected to the honor medical society, Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) during his junior year of medical school.

Dr. Pratter did an internship, a two-year residency, and then a year of Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York. He then did a two-year fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital (Providence, Rhode Island), the major teaching hospital for Brown University Medical School.

Dr. Pratter is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. He has co-authored over 120 medical publications and book chapters. Dr. Pratter has been named a Philadelphia and New Jersey “Top Doctor” on a number of occasions. He has been named one of the best doctors in America. He is a recognized expert in the diagnosis and management of chronic cough, shortness of breath, asthma, and lung cancer. He has also won numerous awards as a teacher.
