Dr. Akers is the Associate Head of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Cooper University Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden. He received his B.A. form the University of California, Berkeley in 1973. He received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1981. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia in 1984. He completed his fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia in 1986. Dr. Akers is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Disorders Medicine. He has special interest in in pulmonary vascular disease, occupational lung diseases and sleep disorders. He has been named a "Top Doc" by Philadelphia Magazine.
