Various health and dental insurance programs are offered to residents/fellows and their eligible dependents. Employee contribution to health care plans is required. Waiting period waived for residents.
Cooper will provide residents/fellows with malpractice insurance coverage for all professional activities performed within The Cooper Health System or under its auspices, to the limit of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $3,000,000 total aggregate per year; these limits are inclusive of the entire Cooper Health System. Coverage extends only to duties performed in the respective training programs.
Cooper provides medical and dental coverage for same-sex partners and their eligible dependent children, as well as opposite-sex partners 62 years and older.
Cooper will provide life insurance to all residents/fellows in the amount equal to the annual salary. Additional life insurance is available through a payroll deduction.
Department of medicine provides $ 1000 allowance for all the categorical residents to be spent towards books, exams etc.
Cooper provides a health service for all residents who become ill or injured as a result of work.
Cooper provides short-term disability coverage through participation in the New Jersey Temporary Disability Income Plan. Employee and employer payroll taxes provide coverage for temporary disability up to 180 days. The plan will pay two-thirds of normal base pay up to the state-defined maximum. All checks received are to be endorsed to The Cooper Health System in order for residents to receive their full contracted salary while out on short-term disability, for up to 12 weeks.
Cooper provides long-term disability insurance to protect the resident/fellow against a long-term disability, accident, or illness. The plan will pay 60% predisability earnings up to $5,000 per month. Eligibility requirements apply.
Parking is provided at no cost to all house staff.
Residents/fellows are entitled to four weeks’ vacation, plus official holidays, or equivalent time if not taken on the holiday. Time off is given for state or national board examinations.
Cooper provides insurance for all work-related injuries and illnesses at no cost. All residents are eligible immediately. Cooper will consider various leaves of absence, military, personal, medical and family, up to the following limits:
- Personal leave - up to 30 days
- Military leave - up to two weeks in a calendar year
- Medical leave (including pregnancy-related disability) - up to 12 weeks, per 12-month period
- Family leave - up to 12 weeks, per 12-month period
Leaves are subject to applicable eligibility requirements, and statutory limitations. Residents may be required to make up all or part of the leave at the end of the term of residency training.
The resident/fellow is reimbursed at the beginning of the initial academic year in the amount of $55.00 for two white lab coats, which will be laundered without cost.
Cooper will provide a $60 per month meal subsidy for residents and fellows. An employee cafeteria provides low-cost meals. Meal is provided for on call residents.
Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training and recertification are provided in-house for all residents/fellows.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides professional short-term counseling for residents/fellows and their dependents. The EAP may be utilized at any time at no charge (up to three visits) on a voluntary basis.
Direct deposit of payroll checks is provided and encouraged.
Several tax-sheltered annuities are available through payroll deduction. TSAs allow residents to shelter pre-tax dollars for long-term savings.
