Podiatric Residency

Podiatric ResidencyThe podiatric residency program at Cooper University Hospital is designed as a PMS-24 program. Cooper University Hospital, the major teaching affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Camden, is a tertiary care medical center and a level 1 trauma center which serves the entire southern half of New Jersey. The hospital also provides primary care in the surrounding communities. This program is currently approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education.

The program director is David M. Millili, DPM. Dr. Millili is certified by American Board of Podiatric Surgery, as well as American Board of Disability Analysts. Currently, Dr. Millili is the Division Head of Podiatry at Cooper University Hospital as well as a member of the Cooper University Hospital Wound Care Center for Limb Preservation. Dr. Millili also holds positions as Department Chair of Podiatry at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury, NJ.

The podiatric teaching staff consists of fourteen other podiatric physicians, as well as a very diversified allopathic medical staff. The Director of Podiatric Medical Education meets quarterly with the residents to review their performance. Additionally, the teaching staff meets regularly to re-evaluate the design and content of the program.

The Cooper University Hospital Podiatric Residency is designed as a PMS-24 program with a length of two years. The program is designed to give the residents the maximum amount of exposure to the podiatric and other medical services in the hospital during the first year. Emphasis is placed on developing clinical skills as well as patient management. During the second year the emphasis is placed on surgical skill development as well as learning and understanding the administrative duties of the physician. The residency currently allows for the resident to become eligible to take the American Board of Podiatric Surgery examination at the end of the second year. There are currently 4 positions available at the Cooper Hospital Podiatric Residency with two positions per each year.

Cooper University Hospital offers its residents a wide range of support services including Clinical Pharmacists that are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to answer any pharmaceutical question. The Cooper University Hospital/UMDNJ Medical library is one of the finest libraries in southern New Jersey. Through the consistent dedication of the library staff to education, our library has the largest section of podiatry and podiatric related books with over 80 titles in various disciplines. The library also offers a wide range of journals. There is also a full-time reference librarian available to help with literature searches and research projects.
