I am pleased at your interest in the field of anesthesiology, and for your interest in joining the residency program at Cooper University Hospital . We are the clinical campus of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Camden and the leading provider of comprehensive health services, medical education and clinical research in Southern New Jersey.

Over 550 physicians in over 75 specialties enable us to provide an almost unlimited number of medical services. Anesthesiology is involved in a great number of those services, providing:

  • the management of procedures for rendering a patient insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical, and certain medical procedures;
  • the support of life functions under the stress of surgery and anesthesia:
  • the clinical management of the patient unconscious from whatever cause;
  • care of critically ill patients;
  • the management of problems in pain relief;
  • the management of problems in cardiac and respiratory resuscitation; and
  • the clinical management of various fluid, electrolyte, and metabolic disturbances

Our Anesthesia Department is involved in 00,000 procedures a year, including cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, regional, general surgical, pediatric and critical care anesthesia.

The field of anesthesiology continues to expand, with ten recognized subspecialties within the field. Today we work not only in the operating room, but also in the intensive care unit and the labor an delivery suite. We also play an important role in acute and chronic pain management, as well as in the preparation of patients for surgery.

We are dedicated to educating and training the best of each new generation of anesthesiologists, to help them become our colleagues, our successors, the leaders in our field.
