Cooper Learning Center

Our Staff

The Cooper Learning Center’s team is comprised of dedicated educational and psychological professionals who understand the multi-faceted issues contributing to learning, attention and behavioral difficulties. Educational staff members are experienced reading teachers, special educators, English teachers and certified school psychologists. Many are certified or trained in programs such as the Wilson Reading Program, Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing, S.P.I.R.E., Preventing Academic Failure and Project Read. Consultations with physicians are conducted as needed, with pediatric staff from Cooper University Hospital.

SelznickRichard Selznick, Ph.D., Director

Dr. Selznick is a psychologist, nationally certified school psychologist, graduate school professor and university professor of pediatrics. He is author of the book The Shut-Down Learner: Helping Your Academically Discouraged Child.

As Director of the Cooper Learning Center, Dr. Selznick oversees a program that assesses and treats a broad range of learning and school-based academic and behavioral problems. The Cooper Learning Center is a Division of the Department of Pediatrics, of Cooper University Hospital. Cooper is a leading teaching hospital in the region. The Cooper Learning Center was established by Dr. Selznick within Cooper’s Pediatric Department in 1995. It is the leading program in the region offering a variety of different services, including parent and teacher training along with its clinical practice.

Dr. Selznick also works as a school consultant and is frequently asked to lecture to parents and teachers on a variety of topics. Throughout the year, Dr. Selznick speaks to numerous parent groups at schools, at regional conferences, and at lectures at Cooper University Hospital and the newly established Cooper Center for Women.

Robert Guillard, PSYD, Staff Psychologist

Dr. Guillard specializes in cognitive-behavioral approaches for children with anxiety and depression. He has more than 20 years of experience as a school psychologist.

Francine Gates, BA, Educational Coordinator - Outreach Coordinator

Gates helps develop a variety of programs for The Cooper Learning Center and serves as the liaison between our program and the schools. She frequently supports parents at IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and helps parents who are seeking contracted services with the schools. She also consults with many school districts. Gates coordinates all of the teacher training programs.

Pamela Goldberger, BA, Educational Coordinator - Summer Camp Director

Goldberger joined the Cooper Learning Center in the summer of 2000. She has more than 15 years of experience as a preschool teacher and certified Wilson Reading Instructor. Goldberger helped develop and oversees the Home-Based Programs, including Fluency and Vocabulary Development. She is the Summer Reading Camp Director. Goldberger helps guide parents with questions/concerns regarding testing, programming, scheduling, school, etc., and can act as a liaison between a child’s teacher and learning therapist.

Tracy Brown, MA, School Psychologist
Brown is a school psychologist and a certified Wilson Reading Instructor with more than 10 years of experience. She oversees Child Study Team services within the Brooklawn School District.

Mary Mitsos, Office Coordinator

Mitsos is the Office Coordinator of the program. She also helps parents with scheduling and billing issues.
