Computerized Tomography
CT – a CT (computerized tomography) or CAT scan is an X-ray technique that produces images of your internal organs that are more detailed than those produced by conventional X-ray exams. Conventional X-ray exams use a stationary X-ray machine to focus beams of radiation on a particular area of the body to produce two-dimensional images. CT scans use an X-ray generating device that rotates around your body, and a very powerful computer to create cross-sectional images, like slices, of the inside of the body. Some CT scans require the use of a contrast medium before the scan. The contrast medium, taken either by mouth, enema or intravenously, helps emphasize blood vessels and other structures.
