Nuclear Medicine – unlike imaging tests that are based on changes tumors cause in the body’s structure, nuclear scans are used to examine changes in tissue metabolism. Nuclear scans involve injecting small amounts of slightly radioactive substances into the body, and using special cameras, to detect abnormalities.
