Radiology & Outpatient Diagnostic Testing

PET/CT

PET CTPET/CT  – the PET/CT scanner combines two imaging tools -- Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computerized Tomography (CT) – for a “fused” image that provides complete information on disease activity and location within the body. In one continuous full-body scan, PET detects miniscule changes in the body’s metabolism caused by the growth of abnormal cells (whether cancerous or not), while CT images provide detailed information about the location, size and shape of the diseased tissue or tumor. Essentially, small lesions or tumors are detected with PET and then precisely located with CT. Alone, each imaging test has particular benefits and limitations; however, the combined image produced by simultaneous PET/CT scanning provides a more complete picture of what is occurring in the body, both anatomically and metabolically.
