Pediatric Surgery
Nothing Is Too Good For Your Kids. The Children's Regional Hospital provides for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of a wide range of pediatric surgical patients ranging from premature infants with birth defects to adolescent trauma victims. But more than anything else, what sets us apart is our 100 years of pediatric experience, our skilled surgeons and our caring, kid-friendly approach to each and every child we treat.
The pediatric surgeons at The Children's Regional Hospital, working with five fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologists, perform the "full gamut" of operations on children of all ages, including newborns. Procedures range from hernia surgery to the removal of cancerous tumors to the needs of infants born with congenital disorders. To stay abreast of the most recent advancements in pediatric surgery techniques, the entire surgical staff at The Children's Regional Hospital keeps in close contact with colleagues around the country.
Over the years, Cooper's pediatric surgeons have been gaining national recognition from the National Pediatric Trauma Registry. And though specifically trained to operate on children, each surgeon also spends considerable time outside the operating room diagnosing and examining patients. Ironically, only about a third of the children seen actually require surgery.
Cooper's pediatric surgeons participate in The Children's Regional Hospital's pre-surgery program by meeting their patients in the operating room prior to surgery and showing them little details, like the scrubs they'll wear during the operation. This lets the children and their parents know that they are not only dedicated, skilled specialists, but people who also truly love the kids they care for. Learn more about this special program and how you can prepare your child for surgery.
