Building a 21st Century University Hospital

A Look into the Future: Cooper’s New Lobby

High above, light is gleaming down from vast skylights onto the white marble walls. People are sitting on the plush couches with their cappuccinos and muffins. Tall bamboo shadows visitors waiting in the seating area. Someone is getting directions at the reception desk, and a woman is drizzling syrup over pancakes in the food service area.

This may sound like a five-star hotel, but it’s actually the new Cooper University Hospital main lobby. Designed to reflect a customer friendly environment, the new lobby impresses upon patients and visitors that Cooper is a world-class hospital offering compassion and comfort.

Many of their needs are met within the first few steps of entering Cooper. A new food service area with a large selection of hot and cold items along with plentiful seating is available for both employees and visitors. If you are looking for medical information, a resource center / library is available to Cooper staff and the public.

Customer service representatives are at a large service desk area where they give directions, patient floor passes and general information. Directly behind the customer service desk is a special suite to help patients and their families with insurance information and registration, while featuring private conference rooms and a child’s waiting area.

If a cup of coffee is first on your list in the morning, you can find a large full service coffee shop with grab-and-go food options. Many visitors often need a place to log onto the Internet or to fax a document. Now, they can find those services in the lobby’s business center.

Welcome to the new three-story lobby, almost triple the size of the current Kelemen lobby. It is here that visitors will have a place to relax and wait for their loved ones who are being treated at the best hospital in the region.
