When I first learned i had breast cancer, I decided to purchase a wig as soon as possible since I had never worn a wig before. The sales clerk at the wig store suggested several styles and I tried on at least 20 until i found one that I liked and the Sales Clerk and my sister said that I looked so gorgeous and that I even reminded her of Dorothy Dandrige (the actress). Well, that was enough for me so I decided to wear it home that day since it was cold and the wig made my head feel warm since it felt like a hat anyway.
My sister and i decided to take a short walk through downtown and do some window shopping. Lots of People were staring at me and smiling wig so I just knew I really looked great. What i failed to realize was the clerk forgot to remove the price tag which was hanging by a string on the back of the wig. The tag was really large, bright orange in color and it was still attached and was clearly marked in BLACK LETTERS "CLEARANCE $19.99 - LAST ONE."
What a laugh we had about that. After Chemo and of course all the hair loss, everytime I put a wig on i would remember to chuckle about that episode and it made it just a little easier to bear. Just like prayer does.
Humor works wonders and wonderfully. Pull it out whenever you can.
