Pediatric Intensive Care
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Children's Regional Hospital at Cooper provides high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. Our doctors and nurses are experienced in treating pediatric diseases and critically ill children. These children include those recovering from major surgery or requiring therapy for serious illnesses, such as asthma, respiratory failure, shock, cancer and trauma.
When a child has a serious illness or has suffered serious trauma, we direct the highest caliber of attention to the child's critical care needs. Our pediatric Intensive Care Service, which admits nearly 1,200 children each year, is staffed by pediatric critical care specialists who have the most sophisticated medical equipment at their disposal. When patients must be transported here from area hospitals, an experienced team of critical care transport specialists provide ongoing monitoring during the ground or air transport.
