Pediatric Travel Clinic

Mother and daughterThis program is an important part of The Children’s Regional Hospital at Cooper. We specialize in providing comprehensive services for infants to young adults who will be traveling outside of the United States. Our services include providing vaccinations to prevent illness and help protect the health of children while they are abroad.

Debrah Meislich, M.D., is the program physician and a board certified pediatric infectious disease specialist. She will discuss with you and your child the precautions that should be taken while traveling. Among the vaccines most frequently provided are yellow fever vaccine, injectable and oral typhoid vaccine, Japanese encephalitis vaccine, hepatitis A vaccine, rabies vaccine, and meningoccal vaccines.

Depending upon where your child will be traveling, Dr. Meislich may also recommend additional immunizations and/or malaria prophylaxis.

When to Call Us

We ask that you contact the office at least 30 days prior to your child’s date of departure so that he or she will be well protected. Moreover, depending upon your destination and length of time away, your child may actually require a series of vaccines, for example, to prevent rabies or Japanese encephalitis, which may require multiple visits.

Medical Insurance and Travel Immunizations

Please note that the majority of insurance companies do not cover travel vaccinations. For that reason, we ask that you pay with cash or credit card at the time of service.
