Neuromuscular Program

NeuromuscularNeuromuscular diseases are characterized by muscle weakness or sensory disturbance in one form or another. The causes can include inherited (genetics) to acquired (often immune) problems, but many of these disorders are still poorly understood.

The Neuromuscular Program provides special expertise in evaluating and treating disorders of the peripheral nervous system, neuromuscular junction and muscle. Patients with neuromuscular disorders can obtain state-of-the-art treatment through the Neuromuscular Program. A variety of contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, such as needle muscle biopsy and plasmapheresis, complement the comprehensive medical and psychosocial management.

Disorders for which specific diagnostic or treatment protocols are available include:

  • amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other motor neuron diseases
  • diabetic polyneuropathy
  • hereditary neuropathy
  • inflammatory and degenerative myopathies
  • inflammatory neuropathies
  • metabolic myopathy including mitochordrial disorders
  • myasthenia gravis (MG) and other disorders of the neuromuscular junction
  • muscular dystrophy (MD)
