Employee Assistance Program
The Cooper University Hospital Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can be your partner in helping to assure the well-being of your employees. Our staff is comprised of master’s level clinicians specializing in short-term problem-focused counseling.
We recognize, as you do, how critical it is to have employees who are functioning in a healthy and productive way. Our job is to help you get them to that level and keep them there. In order to accomplish this goal, the EAP’s first priority is to gain a thorough understanding of how your company works and its objectives. Then we can assist you in effectively handling important policy and work-development issues.
Early resolution of personal problems is in the best interest of both the employee and the organization. Therefore, employees are encouraged to seek assistance on their own before problems begin to affect their work. However, supervisors are also responsible for detecting and attempting to correct unsatisfactory job performance. Our EAP will work closely with supervisors to help clarify their role in identifying behavioral symptoms of emotional distress and making a referral to the EAP when job performance is deteriorating.
The EAP is not just another benefit. We offer your employees easy access to a low-cost and CONFIDENTIAL means of dealing with life stressors before job performance suffers or medical claims skyrocket [Studies have shown that 60% of patients consulting a medical doctor do not have a "disease" but rather physical symptoms to an emotional problem. (Columbia, 1984.)]
Our aim is to provide you and your employees with services that are tailored to meet your particular needs. If there is any aspect of the program that does not suit your organization's needs, please feel free to let us know.

An Employee Assistance Program Is a Good Investment
The Cooper University HospitalEmployee Assistance Program offers professional, short-term counseling, consultation, and referrals to those in your organization who are experiencing personal and/or work-related difficulties.
Helping employees and management deal pro-actively – rather than reactively – with such problems is an important benefit to your workers. However, it can also be very beneficial to your bottom line. A study by the Department of Labor found that for every dollar invested, employers enjoy a return of $5 and $16 [1]. In some cases, companies have realized even more significant returns as a result of their participation in an EAP.
- General Motors Corporation estimated that it saves $37 million a year through its Employee Assistance Program. That’s $3,700 for each of the 10,000 employees enrolled. [2]
- In a study of 122 staff members who used its EAP, the University of Michigan saved at least $65,000 over a 5-year period. This was a result of reduced sick leave and longer employee retention. [3]
When employees are struggling with depression, drug abuse, alcoholism, family difficulties, or other serious problems, it can undermine their job performance. It can also have an adverse effect on the productivity of their fellow employees. Fortunately, Cooper has the expertise – and the years of proven experience – to help you deal successfully with these challenging situations.

The services performed by the EAP are an important part of an organization’s total benefits package. Because of this, we carefully tailor our programs to meet the needs of individual employers and their employees. As a result, we are able to offer easy access to low-cost, confidential assistance designed to deal with problems before they detrimentally affect work performance or result in costly medical claims. This is especially noteworthy because studies show that 60% of patients consulting a medical doctor do not have a “disease.” Instead, they are suffering from the physical symptoms of an emotional problem.
