School of Medical Radiography

A Radiologic Technologist (Radiographer) is a professional member of the healthcare team who performs a vital function in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. A Radiographer must have good communication skills, able to make decisions quickly and independently and be able to perform as a team member. The setting can be in either a diagnostic, therapeutic or research area.

Radiologic Technologists use their knowledge of physics, radiographic procedures, human anatomy and physiology, exposure techniques, radiation protection and radiation biology to create permanent medical images using (x-ray) ionizing radiation.

The program is a two-year full-time certificate program with articulations at various colleges, to assist in completing an Associate or Bachelor Degree.

For admission to the program, applicants must directly contact the School of Medical Radiography and have successfully completed college-level english composition, intermediate algebra or pre-calculus, anatomy and physiology I and II with labs, biomedical ethics, and a medical terminology with a minimumGPA of 2.7. Students, after successful completion of the program, are eligible to sit for the National Boards given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or the NJ State Examination. All college pre-requisite courses must have been completed within five years of start date.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the Cooper University Hospital Medical Radiography Program is to graduate competent entry level Radiographers. Graduates will be capable of providing radiologic services in a wide range of practice venues.

PROGRAM GOALS
The Program’s mission is measured by the degree to which the Program realizes the following goals:

  1. Provide an educational experience that will promote learner success by:
    1. Establishing equitable admission practices
    2. Providing appropriate instruction and educational support services
    3. Providing occupational placement assistance
  2. Provide the employment community with clinical competent graduates able to:
    1. Produce radiographs of diagnostic quality
    2. Provide appropriate patient care
    3. Maintain a safe environment
    4. Communicate effectively
    5. Maintain ethical and professional values

The Program adheres to the following minimum standards:

  1. Average course completion rates are not less than 75% over the past 5 years.
  2. Average credentialing examination pass rates are not less than 75% over the past 5 years.
  3. Program graduates earn their certificates within 150% of the published program length.
  4. Graduates are employed at a rate of not less than 75% within 6 months of Program completion.
