The “Nutrition Facts” panel found on most food labels can help you determine which foods are good sources of fiber, calcium, iron, and vitamin C, and which foods are lower in fat, calories, sodium and sugar. Warning letters have been sent to twenty-three U.S. companies and two foreign entities marketing a wide range of products fraudulently claiming to prevent and cure cancer, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in June. (MORE)

Based on the FDA’s review of these companies’ websites, the products are cited as “unapproved new drugs marketed in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act,” because they claim to cure, treat, mitigate or prevent disease, and have not been shown to be safe and effective for their labeled conditions of use.
