Financial Matters

:: Hospital Billing
Cooper University Hospital allows 60 days for your insurance company to make payment. Until your bill is paid in full, you will receive regular statements advising you of the status of your account. After the 60-day period, that statement should be considered a bill, for which you are directly responsible. Should your insurance company deny payment on all or any portion of your hospital bill, you may work out arrangements for payment with the Patient Accounting Department. The hospital will accept VISA and MasterCard for complete or partial payment of your bill.

Representatives are available for anyone who has questions regarding their hospital bill, pricing information or insurance coverage. Our representatives are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can call them at (856) 356-4700. We also have voice mail for after hours. You may leave your name, phone number and a brief message. A Financial Customer Service Representative will contact you during the next business day.

Please note that special, in-patient conveniences such as telephones and TV are not covered by insurance and will be billed to your home phone / credit card.

:: Physician Billing
You will receive separate bills for physicians' fees if any of the following situations occurred during you hospital stay:

  • You were treated by an Emergency Room Physician.
  • You were visited by a consulting physician requested by your doctor.
  • You had surgery and received anesthesia from an anesthesiologist.
  • You had x-rays that were interpreted by a radiologist.
  • You had an EKG or other heart-monitoring test interpreted by a cardiologist.
  • You had lab specimens evaluated by a pathologist.

The fees for these services are payable directly to the doctors issuing the bills, not the hospital.

If you have questions regarding physician billing, please call (856) 356-4800. Representatives are available for anyone who has questions regarding their hospital bill, pricing information or insurance coverage. Our representatives are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

:: Medicare and Uninsured Patients
You have the right to all the hospital care necessary for the proper diagnosis and treatment of your illness or injury. According to federal law, your discharge date must be determined solely by your medical needs, not by DRG's or Medicare payments. You are entitled to full information about decisions affecting your Medicare coverage and the payment for hospital and post-hospital services.

:: Charity Care
If you require Public Assistance or Charity Care, advise the registration personnel or contact the Financial Counselor at (856) 342-3140 to set up an appointment.
