Shadowing Program for College Students

Doctor with a studentThe program is a unique opportunity for college students who are considering a career in medicine. The program provides these students with the opportunity to experience, first hand, a day in the life of a physician at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey.

Students will accompany a physician for the course of one work week (Monday through Friday). During this time, the student will have the opportunity to watch as the physician makes rounds, attends lectures and completes various duties during a normal day at the hospital.

Students wishing to become involved in the shadowing program will be expected to:

  • Write a short essay telling why he/she is interested in medicine as a career
  • Complete the appropriate volunteer paperwork
  • Schedule an interview in the volunteer office
  • Be oriented to hospital policies and procedures
  • Meet with the physician, or his/her designee, to discuss scheduling for the week
  • Each participant must have the ability to be flexible during this week
