Cancers We Treat

Our Orthopaedic Oncology Center provides expert evaluation and treatment services for a range of soft tissue masses and bone cancers, including:

  • Osteosarcoma: Cancer that usually develops in the ends of long bones where new bone tissue forms
  • Ewing’s sarcoma: Cancer commonly found in the middle of large bones such as the pelvis, thighs, upper arms, and ribs
  • Chondrosarcoma: A type of cancer from cartilage tissue
  • Multiple myeloma: A cancer of plasma cells that can affect the bone marrow
  • Lymphoma: A type of cancer that starts in the lymphocytes, the cells that are part of the body’s immune system
  • Soft-tissue sarcoma: A family of rare cancers that develops in the body's connective tissues
  • Metastatic disease: Cancer originating from another organ (such as the lung), that has spread to the bone

Benign Bone Tumors We Treat

Our specialists have extensive experience evaluating and treating a range of benign bone tumors, including:

  • Enchondroma: Benign bone tumor that is cartilage in origin
  • Non-ossifying fibroma: The most common benign bone tumor in children, usually occurring near the knee
  • Fibrous dysplasia: An uncommon bone disorder in which fibrous tissue develops in place of normal bone, causing bone deformities or fractures
  • Chondroblastoma: A rare, benign, but locally aggressive bone tumor that typically affects the ends of long bones, usually seen in pediatric patients
  • Giant cell tumor of bone: A rare bone tumor that usually occurs near the end of a bone

Benign Soft Tissue Masses We Treat

  • Lipoma: A benign growth of fat
  • Schwannoma: A slow-growing tumor of the nerve sheath that pushes nerve fibers aside
  • Myxoma: A gelatinous connective tissue tumor that most often occurs in the heart, but can appear in other parts of the body
  • Desmoid tumors: Connective tissue tumors that most often occur in the abdomen, arms, and legs, also known as fibromatosis
  • Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS): A condition that causes the synovium – the thin layer of tissue that lines the joints and tendons – to thicken and overgrow, which can lead to arthritis
