As part of Cooper's ongoing Project Imagine construction, several temporary traffic pattern changes will begin on Thursday, July 16, at our Camden Campus and remain in place through early 2027.

What to Know 

Kelemen Circle Emergency Department Entrance

• The Kelemen Circle loop and entrances will be reserved for emergency vehicles and Emergency Department walk-in patients only. 

Kelemen Pavilion Access

• Patient and visitor access to Kelemen Pavilion has relocated to a new entrance on Benson Street.
• Signs posted throughout campus will help guide patients and visitors to the new entrance. 

Pedestrian Traffic

• Portions of the Benson Street sidewalk are temporarily closed due to utility construction. Please follow posted signs and use designated crosswalks.

Need Assistance?

• Security personnel and campus signage will be available to help direct patients and visitors.
• Please allow extra travel time when visiting the Camden Campus.

On Monday, May 11, construction work will begin in the Kelemen Circle and at the corner of Haddon Avenue and Benson Street as part of Project Imagine. This work includes building a new central utility plant and relocating the ambulance entrance to the Kelemen Circle later this summer. 

Here’s what is changing:

• The courtyard area will no longer be available, but the Healing Garden is an available alternative.

What to expect:

• Access to the Kelemen Pavilion and Emergency Department will remain open during this first phase of work.
• Please use caution when walking near the construction areas.

From January 26 through June 1, 2026, the Roberts Pavilion Circle (the main entrance to Cooper University Hospital in Camden) will be reduced in size due to ongoing construction for the new Project Imagine tower.

What you need to know:

• There will be no impact to patient drop-off or appointments.
• Valet and Security will remain available.

Patient discharge and pick-up for same-day surgery

• Valet services will continue to operate at the Roberts Pavilion circle.
• Roberts Pavilion and Dorrance Building patient discharges and same-day surgery pick-up: Drivers should park on Stevens Street until notified by Valet to enter the Roberts Pavilion circle for patient pick-up.
• Kelemen Pavilion patient discharge and pick-up: Pick-ups will temporarily move to the Kelemen Circle (corner of Benson Street and Haddon Avenue).
• Food and other small deliveries will be directed to Stevens Street.

The sidewalks adjacent to the site of Cooper’s new hospital tower, one lane of MLK Boulevard, and the shoulder of Haddon Avenue that runs along the hospital campus are closed to public traffic for the entire duration of our construction project.

What to Know Before You Arrive:

• There is NO impact to patients, visitors, scheduled appointments, or procedures.
• There is NO impact on parking.
• Please be extra cautious as large trucks and equipment will be arriving and departing from the construction site at various times.

Timeline

• From February 2025 until the completion of the construction project.

Here’s what is changing:

• A new left-turn signal will be added for drivers turning north onto Haddon Avenue from Benson Street.
• Pedestrian crosswalk signals will be updated to improve safety for everyone moving through the intersection.

What to expect:

• Traffic at the Benson Street light will receive a green light and green left arrow for approximately 7–10 seconds before other directions turn green. This is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce backups on Benson Street during peak times.
• Pedestrians will be directed to wait to cross until the white walking figure appears. Pedestrians should not begin crossing when the red hand is up. If the red hand begins flashing while you are already in the crosswalk, continue crossing to the other side safely.

Please remain alert, follow the posted signals, and allow extra time when traveling through this intersection as everyone adjusts to the changes. Thank you for helping keep our campus and community safe.

Cooper University Hospital Cape Regional is beginning a construction project to replace its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine with a new model that will offer faster exams, higher-quality imaging, and a greater range of advanced studies with enhanced patient comfort.

To accommodate patients who need MRIs while construction is in progress, we are establishing a temporary trailer for MRI access at the Main Entrance (East Lobby) of the hospital. During construction, the lobby will be closed and patients and visitors will need to use the South Entrance. Construction begins Wednesday, February 4, and is anticipated to be completed by September 2026.

What to know:

• The Main Entrance/East Lobby will close February 4 to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Outpatients and visitors will use the South Entrance for all hospital access.
• The Emergency Department entrance is for emergency room and radiation oncology patients only and should not be used for general entry or exit.
• These changes are expected to be completed by September 2026

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to maintain safe and efficient operations during this temporary change. 

Beginning Monday, June 22, 2026, the New Jersey Department of Transportation will temporarily close the northbound lane of Brace Road (Route 154) between Bortons Mill and Pearlcroft Roads for gas main repairs.

Work will take place Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding weekends and the July 4 holiday, and is expected to continue through the end of July. During this time, northbound traffic traveling toward Route 70 will be detoured at Bortons Mill Road. The southbound lane will remain open.

What to Know Before You Arrive:

• There is NO impact to patients, visitors, scheduled appointments, or procedures.
• There is NO impact on parking.
• Please follow posted detours and allow additional travel time.
