Specialists in the Hematology and Medical Oncology Division of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper treat patients with anemia, leukemia, lymphomas and bleeding disorders as well as benign and malignant tumors. Working in multidisciplinary teams and with specialists in other disciplines, members of the division also focus their efforts on major programs in the treatment of breast, colorectal, and lung cancers.
MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper's Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology offers both inpatient and outpatient care for a full range of cancers and blood disorders. Comprehensive outpatient care, including laboratory, chemotherapy and other infusion services, is available in four convenient facilities in Voorhees, Willingboro and Camden. A fifth office in Sewell, New Jersey offers patients outpatient office visits. Inpatient care is provided in a dedicated unit at Cooper University Hospital in Camden.
Apheresis/Autologous Blood Donation Services
Therapeutic apheresis services are offered to inpatients at Cooper University Hospital.
Clinical research activities include local protocols, pharmaceutical directed trials and our NCI supported Community Clinical Oncology Program (New Jersey CCOP). Staff are available to assist in providing information on studies and inpatient accrual.
Breast Cancer Research Resource
This research resource is designed to gather critical tissue resources needed to make progress in understanding breast cancer. Tumor tissue from cancer patients with a family history of the disease will be stored and characterized at the Coriell Institute and distributed to scientists worldwide studying breast cancer, molecular genetics, and cell biology.
Indigent Drug Program
This program ensures that patients without financial resources are able to receive state-of-the-art anti-cancer drug therapy.
The nutritionist will arrange for and advise patients on oral diet and any IV feedings that may be necessary.
Chemotherapy and other infusion services are available at our Voorhees, Willingboro and Camden facilities. Outpatient laboratories services are conveniently available in many Cooper facilities.
The oncology pharmacist is an important resource and monitors therapeutic doses and costs.
Our social work team provides individual counseling as well as support groups. If community resource access is a problem, our social work team can also assist.
Supportive Care Service
This program is designed to provide a vast array of treatments to relieve pain and other symptoms, distressing side effects from chemotherapy and radiation, and to help patients cope with issues to improve quality of life. Counseling sessions allow for the expression of fear, anger, confusion and other stressful emotions related to a patient's illness.
