I saw Dr. Winters about Charcot midplanar foot reconstruction surgery and he instead recommended amputation below the knee as best option with least complications and in a bedside manner not unlike an itinerant accountant with a suspicious ledger entry—matter of fact and just as cold hearted. I left his office devastated and in shock, but needed to get some groceries. I was in the meat department looking at pork loin when I got a call from Atlantic Care. I don't know if she was a nurse or an office worker, but she sounded like a cruise ship director who was upbeat. She said she was from Dr. Salatash's office, whom Winters had recommended, and he wanted to see me later this week for consultation about taking my left lower leg. Utterly devastated, still in shock, dismayed at the insensitivity of everyone involved, I refused to make any appointment and just hung up on her. I called the doctor's office back everyday this week, but only got answering machine. I have given every other physician, nurse and specialist in the Cooper Health System Cape Regional Medical glowing reviews, but the last doctor I ever want to see again is Brian Winters! I've never met Dr. Salatash but he sounds like Dr. Victor Frankenstein who wants to claim my limb for his monster!
