Beyond Benzodiazepines is a structured group medical program designed to support patients who are in the process of tapering off benzodiazepines or considering a future taper. The program provides a clinically informed setting for education, shared medical visits, and peer support.
Program Overview:
- One-on-One Medical Care: During each session, participants meet individually with a provider to address medical concerns, manage their addiction treatment, and adjust treatment plans when necessary.
- Clinician-Led Education: Each session includes targeted education from medical professionals on the pharmacology of benzodiazepines, tapering strategies, withdrawal symptom management, and evidence-based approaches to treating anxiety and insomnia during and after the taper process.
- Peer Support and Shared Experiences: Patients are encouraged to engage in guided group discussions to reduce isolation, build community, and share strategies for coping with the psychological and physiological effects of tapering.
- Integrated Behavioral Health Strategies: Sessions incorporate education on cognitive and behavioral techniques to manage anxiety, depression, and related conditions without sole reliance on medication.
- Open to All Stages of Readiness: Individuals who are not yet prepared to initiate a taper are welcome to attend. The group is a space for building knowledge and readiness in a nonjudgmental environment.
